Marthe Wéry experiments radically with all components of the painting: support, form, frame, and colour. In Utrecht Après, alongside analytical minimalism, a more poetic layer is also present, which may not be rationally or formally visible, but is certainly palpable. The subtle variations only become visible after prolonged observation. Wéry’s use of colour is for example enhanced in installations featuring multiple paintings, which together possess an almost lyrical quality.
